Nadia Waheed

Nadia Khalida Waheed, M.D.

Dr. Nadia Khalida Waheed, M.D. is fellowship trained and board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.  Dr. Waheed is a fellowship-trained specialist in retinal diseases and has performed thousands of surgical procedures to treat retinal detachments, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, macular holes and epiretinal membranes.  She also has a special interest in hereditary retinal disorders. Dr. Waheed received her College (Advanced Levels) degree through the London University in the United Kingdom.  She completed her M.B and B.S. degree (5 year medical program) at Aga Khan Medical School in Karachi, Pakistan, from where she graduated magna cum laude.  During medical school, she was awarded the International Traveling Scholarship and placed on the  Begum Shafika Zia-ul-Haq Annual Honors List.

This was followed by a research fellowship in Immunology and Uveitis at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School.  She completed an internship in Internal Medicine at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham, MA, and she went on to obtain a Masters Degree in Public Health at the Harvard School of Public Health.  Her ophthalmology training and fellowship in vitreo-retinal disease was completed at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary.  She was awarded the Fellow of the Year Award for excellence in clinical and academic medicine.

Dr. Waheed has an extensive research background and has authored textbook chapters and articles for peer-reviewed journals, such as Ophthalmology, American Journal of Ophthalmology, Archives of Ophthalmology, Eye, Evidence-Based Eye Care, International Ophthalmology Clinics, Molecular & Cellular Proteomics, and Journal of Pakistan Medical Association. 

In addition to her numerous scientific papers and presentations, Dr Waheed has served on several editorial and review boards.  She is the current retina section editor for Eye, and the consulting editor for Aging Eye and Macular Degeneration. Furthermore, she is a reviewer for the American Journal of Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Genetics.

Dr. Waheed practices medical and surgical care for patients with retinal diseases.  She is an active staff member of the New England Eye Center at Tufts University.  She is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, the Massachusetts Medical Society, and the Massachusetts Society of Eye Physicians & Surgeons. 

She enjoys doing overseas volunteer work aimed at training retinal specialists and establishing retinal units. However, her favorite activity is spending time and travelling with her two children.
