Meet Dr. Urman

Sergey Urman, M.D. is a board-certified member of the American Board of Ophthalmology.  He is also a member of the New England Ophthalmological Society, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.  Dr. Sergey Urman has successfully performed thousands of surgeries, including cataract surgery, lasers for glaucoma, as well as some lid procedures.

Dr. Sergey Urman attended Brandeis University where he was a double major in neuroscience and biology.  While at Brandeis, Dr. Urman was a recipient of the Howard Hughes Fellowship award for undergraduate research in life sciences for two years in a row.  After graduating from Brandeis he continued his research endeavors at Beth Israel Hospital, Harvard Medical School.  The work at the Beth Israel Hospital laboratory led to the development of a potential novel treatment for cystic fibrosis and resulted in a number of publications.  Dr. Urman received his medical education at the Boston University School of Medicine.  As a medical student, Dr. Urman developed and authored a Comprehensive Ophthalmology Rotation Syllabus for medical students.

He then went on to complete an internal medicine internship at Mount Auburn Hospital and served as a Clinical Fellow in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He went on to do a residency in ophthalmology at the Boston University School of Medicine. After finishing their residency, Dr. Urman joined the faculty in ophthalmology at Boston Medical Center, where he taught cataract surgery to ophthalmology residents and was involved in medical student education.

For the past five years, Dr. Sergey Urman has served as the Director of the New England Eye Center (NEEC) in Brookline.   NEEC-Brookline is a regional referral and consultation facility, that provides the most current and comprehensive services in primary and tertiary Ophthalmology. He is actively involved in teaching surgical skills to ophthalmology residents at Resident Cataract Surgery Laboratory at Tufts Medical Center and serves as an Assistant Professor in Ophthalmology at Tufts Medical Center.  Dr. Urman provides consultative eye care to New England Eye Institute, Urban Eye MD Associates, and Dimock community health center.  Dr. Urman specializes in complex cataract surgery and has a special interest in providing quality care for underserved populations and for patients with special needs.

Dr. Sergey Urman’s personal interests include running, biking, and ballroom dancing.  He enjoys spending time and traveling with his wife, Dr. Christine Urman, who is a dermatologist, as well as his two daughters.
