Robert O. Kwon, M.D.
Robert O. Kwon, M.D. is fellowship trained and board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Kwon has performed several thousand surgical procedures and has tremendous experience performing cataract, DSEK (new partial-thickness corneal transplant), and laser refractive surgery. He has a special interest in using the newest technology to provide his patients with the best visual outcomes. This includes the use of premium intraocular lenses, the ORange intraoperative wavefront aberrometer for custom IOL power calculation, and endocyclophotocoagulation (ECP) for glaucoma management at the same time as cataract surgery.
Dr. Kwon graduated at the top of his class at Andover High School. Along with his identical twin brother (who is a colorectal surgeon), he played Varsity Ice Hockey for 4 years and they served as co-captains on the Andover High School Varsity team. Following this, Dr. Kwon was accepted in the Honors Program in Medical Education (HPME) at the prestigious Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. This program allowed him to receive his Bachelor of Arts in Biology and his Medical Degree from Northwestern University in seven years. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts. His ophthalmology training was completed at the Eye Foundation of Kansas City at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He received his cornea and refractive surgery fellowship training at Price Vision Group, Indianapolis, Indiana where he gained experience with modern corneal transplantation techniques, complex cataract surgery, and wavefront-guided refractive laser surgery.
Dr. Kwon has authored textbook chapters and research articles for peer-reviewed journals, such as Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Journal of Refractive Surgery, Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, and Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. He recently lectured on a new ultra-thin corneal transplantation technique called Descemet’s Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK) at an international ophthalmology conference (ASCRS).
Dr. Kwon practices comprehensive ophthalmic care for patients with cataracts, corneal disease, dry eyes, glaucoma, diabetes, and macular degeneration. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Medical Association, the Massachusetts Medical Society, and the Massachusetts Society of Eye Physicians & Surgeons.
Dr. Kwon is an active staff member at Winchester Hospital. He is also affiliated with Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Tufts Medical Center, and the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary.
He enjoys golfing, scuba diving, fishing, reading, learning to cook, exploring new restaurants, and traveling with his wife, Courtney.
